Interview with General Secretary of World Ploughing Organization, Anna Marie McHugh

Here in the United States, we would be accustomed to the spelling of the World Plowing Organization as such.  Over in Ireland, the country where the organization calls home and where ploughing is much more popular than here, it is the World Ploughing Organisation.

Recently, we had the opportunity to spend some time with the General Secretary of the World Ploughing Organization, Anna Marie McHugh.  Anna Marie has had ploughing as part of her life her entire life.  McHugh and other members of the World Ploughing Organization visited Lake of the Woods in light of the upcoming 2019 World Ploughing Contest which is scheduled for August 30, 31 and Sep 1, 2019 at Lake of the Woods.

It is not often discussion around events in this neck of the woods have to do with “blessing of the plows” or the “cairn of peace” or soil types, but this visit did exactly that.

The General Secretary took some time to chat with me this past week about the contest coming to Lake of the Woods and about how the contests look in Ireland.  Very interesting lady with a wonderful and proud background in ploughing.  See below!
