Lake of the Woods named #1 Ice Fishing Lake in Midwest

Tripping.com has done a study to figure out the best ice fishing lake in the Midwest. With hundreds of great lakes to pick from like Devils Lake in North Dakota, Mille Lacs Lake and Lake of the Woods in Minnesota. Species of fish, amenities,  resorts, and length of season were some of the factors used in this study.

Most people assume that the fishing season ends once the weather cools down, but for many fishermen and women, the best part of the angling season is just getting started in the wintertime. Many of us can’t wait to get enough ice to get out there fishing. While there are hundreds of great places to ice fish all over the U.S., there’s no question that the Midwest is home to some of the best ice fishing around.

Lake of the Woods comes in #1 and offers 65,000 miles of shore line, and is recognized as the walleye capital of the world. It has also been called one of the most scenic lakes in the United States. In addition to its abundance of walleye, the lake also supports a healthy population of northern pike, sauger, muskie, rock bass, largemouth bass, lake trout, and sturgeon. The Northwest Angle and Rainy River are apart and connected to the Lake of the Woods and are home to some of the best fishing in the United States. With more than 45 resorts offering all-inclusive ice fishing tours, this Minnesota hot spot is a must-visit destination for ice fishing fans. Lake of the Woods has a long fishing season, running from early December through late March.
