Mom’s Wild Rice for a Crowd


  • 3 lbs wild rice (use lake rice)
  • 3 lb bacon, cut into pieces
  • 2 lb real butter melted
  • 2 lg onions, finely chopped
  • 1 1/2 stalks celery, finely chopped
  • 4 (14 oz) cans chicken broth
  • toasted slivered almonds (optional)


  • Cook rice and fry bacon
  • drain the bacon, leaving a small amount in the pan for flavor
  • saute onion and celery in 1 lb of butter
  • mix all ingredients
  • bake until rice has absorbed the chicken broth
