Past Pay It Forward Veteran Featured on Kare11

It was last August when Lake of the Woods kicked off their first annual Pay It Forward event to honor, celebrate and appreciate injured veterans with a 3 night, 2 day fishing extravaganza.  One of the participants, veteran Matt Birr, was part of the group.  Matt has been through a lot.  While overseas, Matt was shot in the back of the head while sending a Facebook message to his mother.  As you can imagine, he has had to deal with the repercussions of a major head wound ever since.

While attending the Lake of the Woods event last year, Matt learned one of his best friends, also military, committed suicide, an unfortunate event that much too common amongst veterans.

Matt, who lives in Fridley, MN, decided to put a fun twist on life to bring smiles to people.  Rather than tell you in words, Kare11, a news station out of the twin cities did a nice story on him recently.  (All photos courtesy of Kare11)

This year will be the second annual Pay It Forward event at Lake of the Woods.  Again, we will be hosting 40+ injured veterans with fishing from charter boats, delicious meals, top notch entertainment, celebrities and more heroes like Matt.

We appreciate all who have served the USA.  Thank you for your service.
