Battle on the Border at the New International Hockey Arena
The Battle of the Border hockey game at the new International Hockey Arena will be the featured event on November 30th between the high school hockey teams from Lake of the Woods School Bears and the International Falls Broncos.
Highway 11 runs across the northern border of Minnesota from Ranier near International Falls to the North Dakota Border. The Rainy River runs west and north from Rainy Lake into Lake of the Woods and forms the border between Canada and the United States. 
What a privilege to live as such close neighbors with another country. There is a great amount of travel between the two countries for pleasure and work. Construction of a new international bridge will be completed for travel in the summer of 2020.
International Hockey Arena at Lake of the Woods School, Baudette
Over the years, there have also been rivalries. This especially happens with the sport of hockey. This healthy rivalry has spurred on an event happening very soon at Lake of the Woods. The area has been given a very generous monetary gift for the building of a new International Ice Arena. This will be the sight of the first inaugural game entitled, “Battle on the Border”. The Broncos of International Falls High School will be the friendly rival. On November 30th, the Lake of the Woods International Ice Arena located at the Lake of the Woods High School 
on Highway 11 West of Baudette will be the sight of the event. At noon, the younger age, International Falls Squirts, will be playing games against Lake of the Woods Squirts.
The Lake of the Woods High School/International Falls Battle of the Border will start at 3:00. While the games are exciting enough, Border State Bank has partnered with the event and furnished complimentary rally towels for each person present. A Polaris Ranger will be raffled off and commemorative To-Go Mugs will be for sale. There will be entertainment between periods and raffles during the day featuring a TJ Oshie signed jersey and hockey puck, an Alex Lyon jersey, WCHA signed hockey pucks, an Ovechkin Jersey, a MN Wild 
jersey and a MN Wild hockey stick. A special Terry Fogerty hockey print will also be for sale. The area is very proud of this new facility and it will a great asset to other community events as well.
