Everyone is always looking for new and greater information about any subject they are interested in. Research is the new normal before doing anything whether it’s being a fix-it man or going traveling.

Lake of the Woods Tourism knows how valuable it is to have the right information when traveling so they have put together two incredible resources to help you out.

One great resource is our Visitor Guide which accents the three great areas of our region for fishing and lodging in this great north country.  This guide offers great information on local resources and our great lodging facilities and special areas of interest found here. To obtain a guide, all one has to do is write us at info@lakeofthewoodsmn.com and give us your postal address. Otherwise, you can always call to request copy at 218-634-1174. A guide will be sent out to you upon receiving your request.

Now, let’s explore an exceptional tool giving you more valued information on the area. Lake of the Woods great website is:  www.lakeofthewoodsmn.com.  Just type in that address (URL).  The site will open with beautiful pictures featuring landscapes around the lake. This one below is a great example of a winter ice fishing scene.

Across the top of the page you will see several words or tabs containing information.
Home where you are currently.

Lodging is an important tab to hold and scroll down. There you will find 1) a complete listing of all of the lodging facilities available and 2) an availability request form that you can fill out with your dates you would like to come. Send that and it will go directly to all the facilities and they will respond to you with any available dates they have. What a great tool!!

Fishing. This tab gives you information about open water fishing, ice fishing, fishing regulations, a lake map and other specifics. There is also a link here for direct access to Minnesota’s Department of Natural Resources giving you all subjects pertaining to licensing, seasons and limits for both hunting and fishing.

Outdoor Adventures. Information here contains Activities such as Geocaching, Bird Watching and Historic Sites. Recreation lists golfing, biking, ATV trails, snowmobiling, etc. Parks and Trails shows information on parks, scenic drives and the Rainy River.

Events and Info allows you to see subjects such as: Blogs and Articles written about the area, an event each fall called Pay It Forward Veteran’s Event, a Photo Gallery and even a link to find Work at Lake of the Woods.

Maps and Trails. Here’s one of the most important tabs on our website.  We get so many calls requesting maps of our area and of the lake itself.

Scrolling down on this tab shows you copies of Snowmobile maps and trail reports, Beltrami State Forest map, ATV maps, Biking Trails, maps of how to travel to Lake of the Woods and a very important lake map.

Have you ever read a Lake of the Woods fishing report and wondered where an island or reef being referred to was?  With 14,552 islands alone, Lake of the Woods Tourism wanted to provide you with free map resources to use as a reference. Lake maps are a great way to learn more about the body of water you intend to fish as well as navigation. With a lake the size of Lake of the Woods, using tools like this can add to a safer, easier and more successful adventure on the water.

We have provided you with Navionics interactive map. The lake map is all of Lake of the Woods, both U.S. and Canadian sides. It also shows depths, reefs, islands and more.  You can zoom out to get the lay of the land or zoom in to look for a “spot on a spot”.  This tool is one you can use at your desktop or on your mobile device anywhere you are connected to the internet to explore the many hot spots of The Walleye Capital of the World.

Mobile app for your phone. Navionics Boating USA app for Android and Apple is $10. This app is very detailed and can be a nice tool to learn more about navigation, fishing spots and actually works as a backup device on the water.
